Calcium-Zinc stabilisers can effectively replace and compete with other common heavy metal based stabilisers in many processes for rigid and flexible PVC products. The PVC industry trend is accelerating the phasing out of heavy metal stabilisers. This is driven by voluntary measures and new legislative regulations to achieve sustainable growth. Examples include the implementation of the REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) Directive and Vinyl 2010 - Voluntary Commitment of the PVC industry in Europe to phase out Lead stabilisers by 2015. Calcium-Zinc stabilisers are usually based on a combination of Calcium and Zinc soaps, together with organic and inorganic co-stabilisers to provide combined high heat stability and lubrication to suit a broad range of processing conditions. These compounds have synergistic effects leading to an increased efficiency in comparison with the single components at satisfactory dosage levels.
